How Frequative handles audio and data.

Applies to: Frequative for Android  ·  Last updated: 1 November 2026

In short

Frequative analyses audio on your device. It does not upload your audio, measurements or session history to us. CSV exports and Android backup are described below. Opulgence operates no servers for the app, has no user accounts, and receives no personal data from it.

The app contains no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, no advertising SDK and no tracking technology. Google Play Billing communicates with Google to check subscription availability and ownership, including when the app starts or resumes, and to handle purchase and restore actions.

Who we are

Frequative is published under the Opulgence brand by an independent developer (“we”, “us”). Opulgence is a publishing and brand name and is not a separately incorporated company or legal entity.

For privacy questions, contact us at support.opulgence@gmail.com.

Audio

Microphone analysis

When you use microphone analysis, Frequative requests the Android microphone permission. Audio from the microphone is read into memory, transformed into a frequency spectrum, and drawn on screen.

Frequative does not record microphone audio to a file, and does not transmit it. The audio itself is processed in memory for display and is not retained as an audio recording after analysis.

System Audio

On supported Android 10+ devices, Frequative can analyse the system playback stream using Android's playback-capture API, started through the standard Android media-projection consent prompt.

  • System Audio captures the audio stream only. It does not capture, read or store screen pixels or screen content.
  • While System Audio is active, the microphone contributes nothing to the analysis.
  • Captured audio is processed in memory for display. It is not written out as an audio recording and is not transmitted.
  • Android may prevent capture of particular apps or audio streams. Restricted playback can be unavailable or silent. System Audio does not substitute microphone input.

Data stored on your device

Frequative stores the following locally on your device, in the app's own storage:

  • Session history — summary information about analysis sessions you have run, so you can review them later.
  • App settings and state — your display mode, FFT size, smoothing, frequency range and similar preferences.
  • Subscription entitlement state — whether Frequative Pro is currently active, as reported by Google Play.

This data is stored locally and is not uploaded to us. Android backup and user-directed exports are described below. Removing the app removes this data from the device, subject to Android backup, described below.

CSV export

When you export a session as CSV, the file is written where you choose on your device. What happens to that file afterwards is under your control — if you share it, it goes wherever you send it. We do not receive exported files.

Purchases

Frequative Pro is sold as a subscription through Google Play Billing. Purchases, payment details, renewals, refunds and cancellations are handled by Google, not by us.

  • We do not see, receive or store your payment card details or billing address.
  • The app asks Google Play whether a valid Pro entitlement exists, and unlocks Pro features accordingly.
  • Google processes purchase data as an independent controller under its own privacy policy and terms.

Billing checks can also occur automatically at startup or resume. Opening legal links uses your browser; Android backup is handled separately by the operating system.

Android backup

Frequative currently has Android's backup behaviour enabled (android:allowBackup="true") and does not restrict it with custom backup rules. This means Android's own Auto Backup may include the app's local data in a device backup associated with your Google account, and may restore it when you set up a new device.

That backup is operated by Google as part of Android, under Google's terms and privacy policy. We do not control it, cannot access it, and receive nothing from it. You can turn Android backup off in your device settings.

Permissions Frequative requests

  • RECORD_AUDIO — microphone analysis.
  • MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS — audio configuration needed for analysis.
  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE and FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PROJECTION — foreground System Audio capture. The manifest also declares FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK_CAPTURE, a nonstandard name that grants no Android permission.
  • INTERNET — declared for application-framework networking compatibility; subscription communication is handled through Google Play Billing.
  • WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 10 and below only) — writing exported files on older Android versions.

What Frequative does not do

  • No user accounts, sign-in or profiles.
  • No analytics, telemetry or usage tracking.
  • No crash-reporting SDK.
  • No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
  • No cookies — the app is not a website and sets none.
  • We do not sell personal data or use app data for advertising.
  • The app does not upload your audio, measurements, session history or exports to us. User-directed exports and Android backup are separate, as described above.

Children

Frequative is a general-purpose audio analysis tool. It is not directed at children, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Your rights

The app does not collect personal data for us. If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to send; you can contact us about that correspondence. Data held locally by the app is removed when you clear the app's data or uninstall it. For purchase records held by Google, contact Google Play.

If you believe we hold information about you and want to ask about it, contact us at support.opulgence@gmail.com.
